Ah, this threw me at first, but I think I've twigged: you've just discovered from my profile that I am 'Following' 1,000 members?

The reason, alas, is fairly mundane: the list was already long-ish as I followed many of the older and most regular members as a way of having them all accessible in one place to send PMs to.

Then, when I became a moderator, I followed every new member to a) check they weren't spammers, b) offer technical help if required. I did remove a number of them, but at this point I was at several hundred and wanted to find out whether there was a limit to the function: there is: 1,000 and even my ADMIN account offers no quick way to depopulate my now vast following list!

    Moved to Website Issues.

My appypollyloggies. I think the rich diet of the festive season may have made my mind more gravily grave or something. Imagine my surprise to find this, what I shall hence claim to be, hacking of my account! ahem...

Look, all I did is utilise his I. P. address, email and registration details to pinpoint his location and send him a certain item of intimate clothing--and now people are calling it a crime?!?!

Many years ago we had a troll who tracked members down and published their full names and addresses on here. The posts were up for a couple days or more, including a weekend, because there were no moderators for anyone to report things to.
Mods were appointed PDQ after that!

Possibly, didn't we have more than one around back then? I remember having a bizarre message from some poster asking if I was REALLY a snail. I just deleted it but apparently that person harassed lots of other people and even gained their affection and went on to have abusive online relationships with them. That wasn't Ricky, it was someone with an Italian-sounding name.

Someone from here once followed me to another board. At a time when I'd had a nasty family bereavement, when he probably thought I was vulnerable, he took up some remark I'd made online and started pestering me by PM. He alleged that I'd agreed to go on holiday with him.

I showed Techy right away and told the creep where to go, and had no more trouble. However, the same man caused serious problems for at least two other women who fell for his sob stories, and even several men who'd felt sorry for him. I mean SERIOUS, as in costing money and risking relationships and even personal safety.

Yith, please delete this if you feel it's a raising-the-dead hazard. Y'know, when just naming an entity, or even merely thinking of what its name might be, will bring it down upon you.

Think we're safe enough now. *Touch wood*

Can't honestly think who you're referring to (in either situation). Think we'll continue this discussion by PM.

The other ultra trouble-maker was Mr Chopper, but that was in 2001-02.

Given that my username is the thread title, I assumed that he was suggesting that I had done something stalkerish (not, perhaps, totally seriously).

My only possible explanation for that--as I'm not actually a stalker--is given in Post #3.

If that isn't the explanation, I have no idea whatsoever what's going on here!

I had a stomach thing a few months ago and couldn't keep my head meds down. I decided to utilize the opportunity to ditch them altogether and now I'm going through the adjustment process in reverse. The Christmas booze must have had it's way. No harm done hopefully. Nice to have a bit of interaction anyway, so cheers all!

Please delete the thread if you'd prefer, it's not any use. I don't know what 'stealing bandwidth' is but I've heard it's bad!

edit: I'm a nitwit Luddite trying to learn the internet too late.

Yep, was Ricky, who had a plethora of sock-puppets and (for some reason) a small-but-devoted following on here, despite the contents of his own site, which was unpleasant, shall we say.
Yes. He's been back since, under at least one new name, but usually burns out quite quickly (doesn't like his world-view challenged.) He's curbed the pestering-behaviour though, so I let him be.

Another one with his own personality cult. Though at that time the mods were coming under a lot of fire - that couple of years was hard-going - and it may be that he was just being lauded for being such a PITA for us. People who were in direct, personal touch with him tended to revise their opinions quite rapidly.
Chopper also tried coming back several times, but usually gave himself away within about an hour. Last sighting was around the 2006 mark.
