None of their official releases are available on youtube in UK for copyright reasons. There's some live recordings, generally bootlegs, of varying sound quality. There are some good ones for real fans..

A friend of mine was chucking out some old books recently and I salvaged Janissaries and Lucifer's Hammer. Time to settle down with them and a large glass of something Scottish.

    Bye Len, Rest In Peace.

Len Wein, the comic book writer and editor who co-created DC’s Swamp Thing and edited Watchmen, has passed away.

Wein, who revived the X-Men in 1975 with artist Dave Cockrum, giving birth to the modern form of the franchise, had a long and distinguished career all over the comics world. Wein, who was born in 1948, was reportedly undergoing health problems and tweeted about his time in the hospital as recently as September 7th.

Reports of his death come from several comics veterans on Twitter, including Kurt Busiek and Brian Michael Bendis. The exact cause of death is unknown. ...

Hands down one of my favourite bands ever. Zen Arcade was a constant companion during my last years at school; Warehouse Songs and Stories the theme for my years at Uni.

I've always missed Husker Du...now I miss them more.

I missed this entirely. I only started listening to Husker Du after they broke up, but I quickly decided that they were fantastic.

Hardcore and catchy pop-rock slowly converge and the fusion is somehow, tender--real.

Bob Mould is a very talented songwriter, but I have to say that Grant Hart wrote (almost) all of my favourite Husker Du tracks. If you're wondering which, this link gives a good list:

    RIP.

^ And Lucky, by all accounts.

Harry was a true original. Will be smoking a quiet pipe in his honour tonight. Rest in peace, out on the range.

Supposedly the band took its band name from a Norwegian TV show called Husker Du (Do You Remember) which ran on TV in the 70s and 80s.

    Harry Dean Stanton...God, no!!!
We were just discussing his latest film yesterday.
I should never have looked him up on Wikipedia...he'd be alive now. :(

As Roger Ebert said, no film with Harry Dean Stanton (or M. Emmet Walsh) in it is a total waste of time. His hit rate for showing up in cult movies was second to none, loads of them. Always great to see him, he could be sharp or dim depending on the role, but always energised his scenes with a style all his own. RIP.

Apart from Red Dawn - not even Harry Dean Stanton could rescue that one.

Harry Dean Stanton - I always think of him alongside actors like Warren Oates; quiet scene stealers, as remarkable for their stand out supporting roles as their starring parts. And cool as fuck without ever trying.

(It's not his characters in Alien or Paris, Texas that first comes to mind for me whenever I think of Harry Dean - it's Asa Hawks; I've always thought that Wise Blood was a perfectly cast movie.)

Let's not forget Stanton made the "plate o' shrimp" speech in Repo Man too, for a Fortean connection that still applies today (there's an instance on the board at the moment).
